You may recognise
some of this

You've left — or are leaving — a relationship that didn't feel safe. And yet somehow, leaving feels just as disorienting as staying did.

You might be questioning yourself, feeling strangely numb, or wondering why you can't just "move on." You might find yourself exhausted in ways that sleep doesn't fix, or disconnected from the person you used to be.

That's not weakness. That's what happens to a nervous system that has been on high alert for a long time.

  • You feel emotionally exhausted and don't fully understand why
  • You second-guess your perceptions and your own memory
  • You sometimes still want to reach out to the person who hurt you
  • You've put everyone else first for so long you've lost touch with your own needs
  • You feel disconnected from your body, or from who you used to be
  • You want to heal, but don't know where to begin — or if you deserve to

A space to come
back to yourself

This is a supportive group programme — not group therapy, but not just a chat either. It blends gentle psychoeducation with embodied, somatic practices, giving you both understanding and tools.

You'll learn why your body and mind have responded the way they have, and begin to gently work with them rather than against them. You'll be held in a small, carefully curated group of women who truly understand — because they're living it too.

We use a combination of talking approaches, grounding techniques, mindfulness, and body-based practices drawn from somatic and sensorimotor work. Everything is trauma-informed, paced gently, and entirely optional.

This is not about fixing yourself. You are not broken. This is about finding your way home to who you are.

Six weeks, six threads
of coming home

01
Understanding what happened

Making sense of the relationship — what toxic and abusive dynamics actually look like, and why they're so hard to see clearly from inside them.

02
Your nervous system story

Why your body responded the way it did. Exploring fawn, freeze, fight and flight — and beginning to understand your own patterns with compassion.

03
The pull back — and why it makes sense

Trauma bonding, attachment patterns, and why we sometimes still long for the person who hurt us. This isn't weakness — it's biology and early wiring.

04
Grief, anger, and the feelings we were told not to have

Reclaiming the full range of your emotional world — including anger, which is often the most suppressed and the most necessary.

05
Coming back into your body

Gentle somatic and grounding practices to help you feel safe in yourself again. Learning to inhabit your body as home rather than threat.

06
Who you are becoming

Reflecting on how far you've come. Beginning to imagine — and inhabit — who you are on the other side of this. This is only the beginning.

Founding cohort
pricing

This is the first time I'm running Reclaiming Yourself, and I want to be honest about that. The programme is carefully designed and clinically grounded — but this cohort is also where I'll be learning what serves you best.

In recognition of that, I'm offering founding cohort pricing — reduced in exchange for your honest feedback and, if you're willing, a short testimonial at the end. Your experience will directly shape future programmes.

A small number of concession places are available — please just ask when you register, without any need to explain yourself.

Your place is confirmed only after our brief screening conversation. If the programme isn't right for you before it begins, I'll refund your place in full.

Marzena Barton, trauma-informed counsellor

Held by someone
who understands

I'm Marzena — a counsellor, and someone who has spent years sitting with women in some of the hardest moments of their lives.

I work in private practice, and I also work for New Pathways — an organisation supporting people who have experienced sexual abuse, domestic violence, and controlling relationships. This work is not abstract for me. I know what it looks like when a woman walks through the door still not quite sure she has the right to be there. I know how long the aftermath can last, and how disorienting it is to feel lost even after you've already done the brave thing of leaving.

I created this programme because the women I work with kept telling me the same thing — that they felt alone in the in-between. Not in crisis anymore, but not okay either. Functioning on the outside, unravelling quietly on the inside. They didn't need fixing. They needed somewhere to land.

That's what I want this group to be.

I'm a qualified integrative counsellor, registered with the BACP, and I bring a trauma-informed approach to everything I do. But in this space, what matters most is that you feel safe, seen, and not alone.

I know it takes courage to take up space after someone has spent a long time telling you not to. I won't take that lightly.

A note on what this programme is This is a facilitated support group — not group therapy. Sessions are psychoeducational, structured, and trauma-informed, but are not a substitute for individual therapeutic support. I work within the BACP Ethical Framework. If safeguarding concerns arise during the programme, I follow professional referral guidelines to ensure every participant gets the right support.

Things you might be
wondering right now

What if I miss a session?

Sessions are not recorded — this is a confidential, held space and that privacy is protected without exception. If you miss a session, I'll send you a brief written summary of the themes and any practices we covered, so you can stay connected to the thread of the programme. I'd ask you to let me know in advance where possible, so the group can hold space for you.

Do I need a Zoom account?

No — you can join via a link in your browser on any device. A Zoom account is helpful but not required. I'll send joining instructions before the first session.

Can I join if I'm still in the relationship, or thinking of leaving?

This is something we'll explore together in the screening conversation. Some women find the programme helpful while they're still navigating the process of leaving — others need 1:1 support first. I'll be honest with you about what I think is right for you, and I won't push you either way.

What if the group isn't right for me after a session or two?

That's okay. Your wellbeing comes before anything else. If after the first session you feel it's not the right fit, we can talk about it — I'll never hold you to continuing if it's not serving you.

Why is the price lower than I expected?

This is the founding cohort of Reclaiming Yourself, and the price reflects that honestly. A single individual therapy session typically costs £60–£90 — six group sessions at £217 works out at under £37 per session, with the added dimension of peer support, structured materials, and somatic practices to use between sessions. In return, I ask for your honest feedback at the end, and a testimonial if you feel comfortable. Concession places are also available — please just ask.

Will what I share stay private?

Confidentiality within the group is something we agree together in the first session — what's shared in the room stays in the room. As the facilitator, I hold professional confidentiality within the BACP Ethical Framework, with the standard exceptions for serious safeguarding concerns.

Take the first
small step

You're not committing to anything by registering. You're simply opening a conversation — and that already takes courage.

Once I receive your details, I'll be in touch within 48 hours to arrange a brief 30-minute Zoom conversation, so we can both sense whether this group is right for you, right now.

A note on screening

Before your place is confirmed, I'll invite you to a brief 30-minute Zoom conversation. This isn't an assessment — it's simply a chance for us both to feel into whether this group is the right space, at the right time, for you. Some women are better supported by 1:1 work first, and I want to make sure you get what's genuinely right for you.
